Someone Else's Fairytale might be your fairytale.

Once in a while we all dream big.  We visualize winning the lottery ticket, kissing that famous singer, marrying that famous actor, writing the next best seller.  Okay, that last one was mine.  The point is, we all dream big once in a while but we don't think it will happen to us. And sometimes we don't dream big but the dream finds us anyway, like the guy who wins big bucks because someone bought him a lotto ticket for his birthday or the sales clerk who just happens to catch the eye of a wealthy customer. What happens, though, when opportunity doesn't just knock but opens the door and tries to walk in?  Do we run and hide; do we refuse to believe it; do we try to shove it off onto someone else?
When I was a young teenager, some kids told me one of the cutest boys in school, Mike Patrick, liked me.  I thought they were kidding me, making fun of me, just trying to get a rise. After all, how could he like me? It was much later that I realized they weren't making fun of me, he had liked me but was way too shy to say anything. To this day I wonder if I hurt him. So what would have been different if I hadn't rejected the notion or if he had been less shy?
In the rather chaste chick lit book, Someone Else's Fairytale, E. M. Tippetts explores this a bit. What would happen if dreams hunted us down until we finally listened, if the boy isn't too shy to pursue, if we at last stepped out of our denial and realized it could really happen to us? And what if we had a dark secret to complicate things?

From Amazon:
Jason Vanderholt, Hollywood's hottest actor, falls head over heels for everygirl, Chloe Winters, who hasn't gotten around to watching most of his movies. She becomes the woman every other woman in America is dying to be, but it just isn't her fairytale.

About the Book:
Chloe finds herself up in the middle of the night because her roommate has talked her into being an extra on a movie set. The pay isn't all that good but she needs the money and she needs to support her friends, Lori and Matthew. The next thing she knows is heartthrob movie star Jason Vanderholt has taken a shine to her and summons her to his set trailer for a little one on one time, which Chloe mistakes for a sexual pass. She flees but is caught by the set security guards which gives Jason time to catch up with her and offer to walk her back to her place on the set. When he asks for her phone number she just smiles and leaves. This would not be her life.
Chloe not only doesn't trust Jason but she has dark secrets and a room full of trouble leaving no time to even think about the possibility that Jason might really simply like her. When Jason shows up at the diner where Chloe works, even more trouble enters her world in the form of slashed tires and rocks through her window. The only person Chloe feels she can trust is Matthew but can she still trust him after she lets her guard down? What of the pursuit by Jason? Is it real or just another conquest? And what about Chloe's biggest fear? Has this movie star's interest in her placed her in a deadly position?

My Take:
I liked the book. The story was a little more chaste than I believe natural in the real world but that was the only flaw I found in the book.  I can see how Matthew, Lori and Chloe could be friends. Jason's fascination of Chloe is believable. I could feel for Jason and understand Chloe, even if I might be different. But I have had plenty of time to learn the lessons of the Mike Patricks of the world; Chloe is still a young woman. The images of the story are well done without boring us with too much detail.  I can see the Sandia Tram and what the 'station' actually felt like. Chloe's real secret, the darkest one, could be the axe over the door of any of us but for grace.

I recommend this to anyone who likes chaste chick lit, and is particularly well suited for young preteen and teenage girls. If you are looking for a good book to give, where the romance stays at first base, where kissing is still a big deal, this is a great one to pick up. Besides, it made the semifinals in the Kindle Book Review's Best Indie Books of 2012 Contest.
